Veterinary Sales Tax Being Proposed

A new sales tax of 6.35% on veterinary care and services has been proposed. We are concerned this sales tax will make it more difficult for pet owners to provide adequate care for their animals.  If you would like to voice your opinion in opposition to this new proposed tax:

1. Please print out the following letter – all you need to do is add an addressee and sign it. Letter in Opposition to New Veterinary Tax

2. Mail it to your state representatives and senators. You can find your local representatives at this link. If you prefer, you can also email your representatives from this link – just copy & paste the content of the letter linked above into their email form.

Thank you for sharing our concerns about keeping animal health care as affordable as it can be for pet owners.

We Are Now Offering Therapeutic Laser Treatments

We are pleased to now be offering therapeutic laser treatments at our facility.  While relatively new technology to the veterinary medical field, laser therapy can be used to reduce tissue inflammation post injury, to manage pain such as that associated with arthritis, and speed recovery post operatively. Our MLS laser system can be used to augment or reduce the use of traditional treatment options for pain and inflammation, such as pharmaceuticals, offering a truly multimodal approach to pain management and tissue damage reversal.  If you think you may have a pet that could benefit from MLS laser therapy, our staff would be happy to setup a consult with one of our doctors.

For the month of November we are running a special package for laser therapy which amounts to 15% off a total of 5 sessions.

Dental Radiography

We are pleased to be able to offer ourpatients dental x-rays.  In addition to our standard dental cleaning and polishing service we also offer a comprehensive dental package whichincludes dental radiography.  Currently only 10% of veterinaryfacilities have the capability to take dental radiographs and we feelstrongly that this service enhances the quality of medicine that ourhospital can offer.

Dental radiographs can provide atremendous amount of information.  Most owners are unaware that 80% ofdental pathology is below the gingiva or gumline.  These hiddenpathologies include painful conditions such as abscesses, fracturedtooth roots, and resorptive lesions.  Furthermore, most owners areunaware that dental disease can have major systemic effects.  Dentaldisease is not just a mouth problem; it can lead to very seriousdiseases and infections of the heart, liver, and kidneys, to name a few.  This service can provide necessary information needed todetect, treat, and prevent such conditions that otherwise would goundiagnosed.  Please ask our doctors and staff if you are interested in discussing this service.

Canine Influenza Update

Canine Influenza, colloquially referred to as "Dog Flu," has had a significant rise in our area over the last couple months.  This article from the Wall Street Journal is a very informative highlight of the disease and re-enforces the importance of immunizing all dogs against this virus, especially dogs who have frequent contact with other dogs.

Canine Influenza

There have been numerous reports across the North Eastern States, particularly New York and Connecticut, of cases of Canine Influenza.  This flu strain, denoted H3N8, is a particularly virulent and highly contagious type of influenza.  In response to these reports, and in doing our part to be proactive in protecting our patients and our facility from this virus, we are now requiring that all animals admitted to our facility be immunized against this disease.  We also strongly recommend that all dogs in general be immunized against H3N8, particularly dogs that frequent kennels, dog parks, grooming facilities, or dog shows.  The vaccine does notcompletely protect all dogs from contracting the virus, however, it cansubstantially decrease signs of illness and also shortens the time frame for which infected dogs can pass the infection on to others.  Thevaccine is a two shot series given 2-4 weeks apart, and requires annualboosters thereafter.  We hope that by initiating this move at our hospital we can do our part to lessen the impact of this disease in our area.

For more detailed information about this disease please review the following links from the CDC, AVMA, CVMA, and Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine:
