How to Recognize a Pet Emergency
How do you know if your pet needs emergency care? Check for these signs and behaviors:
- Vomiting/diarrhea for over 24 hours
- Choking/Gagging/Difficulty breathing
- Gums that are pale pink or almost white
- Has not had food or water for 24 hours
- Is limping, placing no weight on a certain leg, or is unable to stand or walk
- Appears disoriented, unable to walk straight, tilts head to the side
- Lethargic, uninterested in regular activities
- Cuts, bites, or other wounds
- Rapid and/or irregular
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Blood in stool/vomit
- Bleeding from nose, mouth or ears
- Whimpers or cries when touched
- Ate something poisonous
- Fell or got hit by a car
